King's Status in Morocco

Before our trip to Morocco, I had learned that Morocco is a monarchy entirely different from what we have in the United States. The King of Morocco is King Mohammed VI. The King of Morocco is born into the royal family. King Mohammed VI is the head of state, and he represents the country domestically and internationally. The King fulfills ceremonial duties such as presiding over national events, ceremonies, and official state functions. He meets with foreign dignitaries and heads of state. King Mohammed VI holds constitutional powers and responsibilities. Morocco is a constitutional monarchy, so King Mohammed VI has the executive authority. The king appoints a Prime Minister and members of the government. The king also has the authority to issue pardons. The King guides the country thru his policies and governance. King Mohammed VI has religious and moral authority within the country. This was very interesting to me because he is a religious and political leader. In my opinion, this leads to an extremely powerful person only because of being born into the royal family, and they are unlikely to be overthrown due to being a religious leader for their country.

We visited King Mohammed VI’s royal palace in Rabat which has been the official residence of the Moroccan monarchy since 1912. The Moroccan authorities will not disclose the actual dimensions of the palace. The palace is guarded by royal guards who are dressed in their ceremonial uniforms when there are state visits or ceremonies. There is a nine-hole golf course in a couple of his palaces across Morocco. The king’s social status is as good as it gets anywhere in the world. The closest social status in America to the King would be the president of the United States. They are different in ways as such in the United States, the President has no jurisdiction over religion in his country. Whereas the King of Morocco is in control of everything about government and religion. You will never be able to achieve this social status in the United States.
